Manipal: Indian film music is the true combination of Indian and western traditions and in that sense it has achieved a kind of ‘conceptual fusion’. Senior violin artist Ranga Pai said here recently.

Interacting with the students of Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and sciences, MAHE, there are several attempts at creating ‘fusion’ music; but the best and classic example of ‘fusion’ music is Indian film music itself. The true traditions actually meet there, he added.

The specialty of Indian music is the Raga system. Something that defines western music in harmonics. “We can see these two coming together in film music” he said.

Mr. Pai also explained the basic concepts of music, demonstrating them with rendering many semi-classical and film songs on violin including “E Raate, E Mousam” and “Jab Deep Jale Aana”. The GCPAS head Prof. Varadesh Hiregange and students were present.
