Manipal: MAHE Executive Vice-President Dr. H. Vinod Bhat has said that education becomes more and more interdisciplinary in the days to come with a blend of natural sciences and liberal arts.

Speaking at the ‘Sarvodaya – the Annual Day’ of Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences, MAHE he said liberal arts and social sciences will find more space and significance in Medicine and Engineering in the days to come. (National Education Policy 2021 also endorses and advocates such a view).

In such a context, the courses being offered by GCPAS, MAHE will find a lot of significance. “The University secures its eminence because of courses like yours”, he added. Hoping to find many ‘polymaths’ emerging from the department, Dr. Bhat called upon the students to research and write about lesser known figures of freedom struggle and Gandhian movement (such as Umabai Kundapur from this region) so that micro-history is also
enriched.

Dr. Vinod Bhat was also felicitated on the occasion for his immense contribution to the MAHE as its previous Vice-Chancellor with many other posts prior to it. It may be recalled that MAHE got its ‘Institution of Eminence’ tag by Union HRD Ministry during his Vice- Chancellorship.

Speaking on the occasion, GCPAS Head Prof Varadesh Hiregange said Ecosophy, Aesthetics and Peace are the philosophical bases of the courses at GCPAS and media are the medium of expression. He also lauded Dr Bhat’s contribution to the MAHE as a whole and to the GCPAS in particular.

The Sarvodaya Annual Day was marked by pulsating cultural activities by the students of BA (Aesthetics and Peace Studies), MA (Ecosophical Aesthetics) and MA (Art and Peace Studies). Both the faculty and students shared their impressions and experiences of the year.
